What If

What if everything works out perfectly? If all the moments and experiences that have led up to this time were all part of making you who you really needed to be. All the amazing times. All the painful ones. What if they were perfectly placed in order to cause the exact chain reactions to place you exactly where you needed to be?

Like a recipe for some fine food. The ingredients are all the individual elements of who you are and what you have done. Looking back there might be regret. I wish I didn’t add that. I would have preferred something else entirely. But it combines together and mixes into a dough of the exact correct proportions and you rise impeccably.

I want these thoughts to carry me through any moments of indecision or confusion. Any time there is trepidation I want to trust the recipe. I am the baker so sometimes it’s hard because it’s really easy to doubt myself. But time and time again I have made beautiful things. And this time the beautiful thing will be myself.

The Parker house roll with Fresno butter at Poltergeist. An example of baking well done.
